Profile - Kenneth Thlaka

Kenneth Thlaka is a development practitioner with considerable experience of more than 18 years in the NGO sector. Thlaka’s journey started from a community youth movement where he became an activist. He worked as executive director for two youth development organizations and as a board member in several NGOs.
Mr Thlaka has been in leadership and management position for various organisations where one of his responsibilities was to deal with donors and funders from funding communities. He possess extensive knowledge on fundraising, dealing with funders and stakeholders management. Studied and completed an advanced certificate on Organisational Development with Unisa and studied for Masters Degree in Public Development and Management with Regenesys. Completed Public Development and Management advanced certificate on an hounors degree level with Wits Public Development Management School.
Having qualified in Organisational Development, Mr Thlaka got a contract assignment with an organisation called SANGOCO to do their Organisational Development exercise that lasted for nine months. With this exercise the focus was on: 1. Organisational Analysis that drew all elements including staff, systems, structure, policies, etc. 2. Intervention planning, which included processes and interventions tool development. 3. Implementation of intervention, which included staffing issues, strategic planning session, team building, systems development, etc. 4 Monitoring and Evaluation, which was done periodically through meetings and forms completion.
In his years of experience, Mr Thlaka also managed to do resource mobilisation assignments with various institutions, and even developed a concept document to investigate a Funding Model for South African NGO’s through SANGOCO (South African NGO Coalition). He also got an opportunity to develop and facilitate development programs in Belgium, United Kingdom, Sweden, Swaziland, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Seychelles and Tanzania.
